Helping users understand subscriptions

Subscriptions can be confusing. Help users understand by clearly communicating subscription services and content upfront. When adding subscriptions to your app or game, transparency is key.

Be sure to review the Developer policy guidelines, including our Subscriptions policy and follow these steps:

Subscriptions

  • Clearly inform users that their subscriptions will be automatically renewed, and when the automatic renewal will occur.
  • Prominently display pricing in a way that matches the billing cycle. For example, monthly subscriptions should show monthly cost, and annual subscriptions should show annual cost.
  • Ensure that users know what content or services are included with their subscription, and what can be accessed without a subscription.
  • Ensure offer pricing and terms are completely localized. All information should be in the same language.

Free trials and introductory offers

In addition to the subscriptions steps, follow these additional steps for free trials and introductory offers:

  • Clearly explain that the user will be automatically enrolled in a paid subscription at the end of the offer period.
  • Clearly explain how much and how frequently a user will be charged once the free trial or introductory offer ends.
  • Ensure offer pricing and terms are completely localized. All information should be in the same language.
  • Let users know how to cancel if they don't want to convert to a paid subscription.
